  19.    The problem of latex2e and latex209 using the same input filenames
  20.    will be addressed in the next release. Right now, you can work
  21.    around by using a script for one or both that prepends the 
  22.    tex/latex2e or tex/latex209 to TEXINPUTS, so it will be searched first.

  24.    The particular problem of \usepackage{times} not working ought
  25.    to be sent to the latex folks, so they can deal with it. If there
  26.    are files that should go in the dvips distribution (as there probably
  27.    are), then I'm sure Tom and (in any case) I would be happy to do that.

  29. Just to make one problem clear.  The files that presently get put into
  30. texmf/tex/dvips are incompatible with LaTeX2e, but they are not obviously
  31. part of the LaTeX209 tree.  It is easy enough to move them into the
  32. LaTeX209 tree but, as it stands now, on the next installation of
  33. (for example) dvipsk-5.55b they will reappear in the main texmf tree.

  35. Tim Murphy has pointed me at fonts/metrics, and I will collect what is needed
  36. from there and try again, but we will have to decide whether to make
  37. the newer version of times.sty a part of dvipsk, and if so, what to
  38. do with the latex209 stuff.

  40. Perhaps the latex209 stuff could be installed into
  41. texmf/latex209/dvips    ????

  44. official or supported any longer.)
